CNN could kill anyone’s career’: Trump mocks network’s flop with Bill Maher

Former President Donald Trump mocked live's failed attempt at late-night comedy with its airing of Real Time with Bill Maher Overtime, which has drawn dismal ratings.

It began airing the Maher program during Tonight on Feb. 3, drawing 387,000 viewers on average, including just 90,000 in the 24-54 age demographic, according to Nielsen data.

In comparison, Gutfeld! on Fox News posted an average of 1.9 million viewers, along with 359,000 in the coveted 24-54 demographic. In its next airing on Feb. 10, CNN posted fewer viewers during the 15-minute segment, with an average of 345,000 and only 70,000 in the key demographic.

“Bill Maher dropping big,” Trump wrote on Truth Social. “Ratings way down in second week, substantially lower than his abysmal start. This experiment has already turned out to be a major failure, but in all fairness to Maher, CNN could kill anyone’s career. Now if only the RINOs, who want to show how cool they are, wouldn’t put him on their shows!”

CNN CEO Chris Licht recently explained that the network chose to use Maher’s program in its attempt at venturing into late-night comedy rather than producing an original show.

"I worked on a comedy show. And it took over 200 people to produce an actual comedy show," he said in a recent interview. "So no, I would not be so foolish as to, in one fell swoop, hurt the brand of comedy and news by trying to do a comedy show on CNN."
